Am I the only one who thought that kiri and Lo’ak was the same age and not Kiri and Neteyam.
I see people putting Kiri and Neteyam as the same age in fics etc and I’m like that’s not right …. Is it?
Kiri and Neteyam are the same age (Neteyam was born first but Kiri’s probably no more than a month or so behind at most, all things considered). We see them together as babies and they appear to be about the same size (and yes, based on stripe patterns and finger count I am 1000% confident that the baby on the right is Neteyam, not Lo’ak):
And again when we see them as toddlers Neteyam and Kiri appear to be roughly the same with Lo’ak slightly smaller (though to be fair it’s hard to tell exactly since we never see them all standing together on a level surface), and older Neteyam and Kiri can play more boisterously together while younger Lo’ak kinda hangs back and does his own thing:
…..so yes, Neteyam and Kiri are about the same age, and Lo’ak is a year younger than both of them.
If it makes you feel any better, I’m pretty convinced that Kiri wasn’t conceived the normal way. Obligatory disclaimer that this is still just a theory, but: based on what we currently know I don’t think Kiri has a biological father. I think she’s genetically a clone of Grace’s avatar somehow spurred into existence by Eywa. This theory would explain her existence despite Grace having no known love interest, her unique connection to Eywa, and her eerie resemblance to Grace right down to her striping patterns (if you compare Jake and Neytiri’s patterns to those of their biological children, they are all very distinct from each other, yet Grace’s and Kiri’s are extremely similar).
So that said, if Kiri really is a genetic clone spurred into existence by Eywa, then her conception occurring after Grace’s death wouldn’t necessarily imply…ahem…yeah.
It would, however, be very random for Eywa to suddenly do this months after Grace’s death, so while it’s possible, I don’t find it super likely…rather, I’m still convinced that Kiri’s conception happened during Grace’s attempted consciousness transfer. It’s by far the most logical option we’ve got right now.
Given that Jake and Neytiri only became mates a few days before this attempted transfer (and Neteyam was presumably conceived at that time), this would track with Kiri and Neteyam being very close in age, and is another reason I don’t think their births could possibly be much more than a month or so apart.
